The Leftist Spin has begun!

Isn’t it odd that just when New York Governor Elliott Spitzer has introduced the RHAPP Bill — the Reproductive Health and Privacy Protection Act — which guarantees women the right to choose or refuse birth control and abortion, he is simultaneously the subject of a highly publicized sex sting that threatens to destroy his career and possibly send him to prison?

Surely, what Spitzer is accused of — an interstate tryst with an expensive prostitute — is egregious for a family man and a high ranking public servant. Nonetheless, it’s striking that the Governor comes under attack NOW when he’s proposing the country’s most comprehensive protection for women.

Right from the Clinton era play book, yeah?

Elliott Spitzer “may” have committed an act that is shameful for a husband and a father, but how many other politicians and powerful leaders are guilty of the same? The only difference may be that those other leaders aren’t launching sweeping legislation to protect the rights of women, and in so doing, mobilizing the powerful and vengeful forces of the conservative religious right.

Well, I guess that makes sense. As long as Spitzer is doing something you agree with, we should ignore his illegal activities.  I get it.

There has been, even on this blog, a lot of argument about illegal immigration with points raised about whether illegal immigration is good or bad for the economy; whether it is fair to stop people entering the country illegally; whether or not we should expel those here illegally, etc.

None of this matters. It is completely irrelevant.

There is only one valid point to this debate.  What is the law?

If you come across the border without the proper permission, is that against the law? If you take a job without the proper permission, is it against the law? If you drive without the proper permission, is it against the law? If you use someone else’s identity to establish tax records, bank accounts, rental agreements, is it against the law?

If the answer to any of the above questions is YES, there lies the only relevant point in the debate.

If you don’t like the law, work hard to get it changed. However, you cannot claim to embody justice and fairness while disregarding the very essence of justice and fairness - our laws.

I spoke yesterday that the “illegal” in illegal immigration doesn’t seem to mean anything to anyone on either side of the issue anymore. It never really had much meaning from the leftists, and has been diluted to a great extent now on the right.

Well, another phrase seems to have taken on this same semblance of androgyny on the issue of illegal immigration - “Zero Tolerance”. Now, I cast no dispersion whatsoever on the men and women protecting our borders day-to-day. They do a fine job with the resources and policies they are handed. This is a policy matter.

Roughly 1000 illegal immigrants are apprehended everyday in the Tucson sector. This is, by vast amounts, the most active area for illegal border crossers. Most of those apprehended are provided with the “catch-and-release” policy of “voluntary return to Mexico” - thus allowing them the opportunity to actually enter the country legally without repercussions. However, the Tucson sector bureaucrats will now be prosecuting 40 per day of these illegal entrants to show that they mean business, as a part of their “zero tolerance” program.

I understand the cost of prosecuting illegal entrants. I understand the burden this places on the court. However, there are two points I would like to make:

Every traffic court in the state handles dozens of cases everyday and no one blinks an eyelash about the burden on the court system. There are prosecuting attorneys there, but no defense attorneys appointed by the court for the benefit of citizens.

Forty indictments per day is not “zero tolerance” It is 960 tolerance.

Update: This is why the “catch-and-release” policies are a bad idea. Hat Tip: Michelle Malkin

Santana Batiz-Aceves, 39, a twice-deported illegal immigrant with a history of drug charges, was arrested about 11:49 a.m. Friday at his Chandler home near Arizona Avenue and Ray Road. He was booked into Maricopa County’s Fourth Avenue Jail on suspicion of 25 felonies, including kidnapping, child molestation, sexual abuse, sexual conduct with a minor, aggravated assault, burglary and trespassing.

Governor Corzine is being hailed by many for a “historic” move, which “saves the lives” of 8 killers. One of the killers is the reason for Megan’s Law - yeah a child killer.

The US Supreme Court overturned a federal ban on capital punishment in 1976. In 1982, New Jersey re-instated capital punishment, but has not carried out the threat of death as punishment since 1963. So, what has Corzine done that is so historic? What has he done to deserve this kind of praise?

The state’s move is being hailed across the world as a historic victory against capital punishment. Rome plans to shine golden light on the Colosseum in support. Once the arena for deadly gladiator combat and executions, the Colosseum is now a symbol of the fight against the death penalty.

“The rest of America, and for that matter the entire world, is watching what we are doing here today,” said Assemblyman Wilfredo Caraballo, a Democrat. “New Jersey is setting a precedent that I’m confident other states will follow.”

Corzine has done nothing more than remove an idle threat of death as punishment. This is the most empty victory against capital punishment one could possibly manufacture. You have a state, which creates legislation to ban a practice they do not use. What exactly has been “won” here?

You want to create a historic victory against death? Create legislation to ban abortion in New Jersey and then go to the Supreme Court and fight for your state’s right to make its own laws. In the past 30 years, abortion has killed about 45 million people - the death penalty about 1000.

Norman Hsu Indicted

December 4th, 2007

Remember all the brouhaha about Jack Abramoff? All the allegations of criminality of Republicans in general - remember? Democrats never do these things! They are HOLY! It only happens in the party of SmirkyChimpHilterBush!

DailKos: There are ZERO Democrats who took Abramoff Money!

Yeah - you remember.

One of the front runners in the race for President of the United States has received illegal campaign contributions directly from Norman Hsu, which is why she didn’t need to take any from Jack Abramoff. She has also been reluctant (dare I say even lying about it?) to give money back.

Former Democratic fundraiser Norman Hsu, charged in September with cheating investors in a $60 million “Ponzi” scheme, was formally indicted by a federal grand jury on similar allegations, U.S. prosecutors said.

The 15-count indictment unsealed today in New York charges Hsu with wire fraud, mail fraud and violating election laws, alleging he recruited investors by promising high returns on short-term investments. He used money from new victims to pay older ones and pressured investors to contribute to political candidates he favored, U.S. Attorney Michael Garcia said.

Hsu is only one of Hillary Clinton’s 322 “bundlers” - so let us not pretend Hillary is not bowing to special interest groups and just making dang sure her bread gets buttered.

Lobbyists among Clinton’s 322 bundlers include Steve Ricchetti and Matthew Bernstein. Ricchetti Inc.’s clients include Detroit-based General Motors Corp. Bernstein’s law firm, DLA Piper US LLP, represents Bethesda, Maryland-based Lockheed Martin Corp., among others.

“The game in Washington is how you get your issues up on the radar screen of a policy maker,” McGehee says. “Being a bundler is probably one of the best ways to do that.”

Yeah, Democrats didn’t need to take money from Jack Abramoff - they all had criminals of their own.

A New ‘Water’gate?

November 9th, 2007

Perhaps what we need in the United States is a new “Watergate”. I don’t mean a recorded Presidential scandal resulting in impeachment proceedings, although I understand there are a few supporters of something like that. I am talking about an investigation into the whole waterboarding blame game. The reason I propose this is based upon the intense focus this topic seems to elicit and the passion with which waterboarding gets discussed in congress, the news, at home, and across the internet.

What exactly is waterboarding?

Well, if you can lay down in the shower, put a towel over your face and allow the shower to cascade water onto your face through the towel, that is a very simple example of the method. The difference being that an actual prisoner would be tied to a board and the board would be tilted head down. A claustrophobic response, mixed with the helplessness of being restrained, combined with inhaling small amounts of water creates a feeling of drowning. It is reported as have no lasting physical effects, however the psychological effects are impossible to measure consistently. The purpose of this practice is to create a great deal of stress in order to elicit someone, as an example, to tell us where bad guys are or what they are planning.

You remember the Westboro church that turns out with all of their finery and signs to protest Military funerals? You remember - I told you about this a couple of years ago. :)

Now, I do not know what legal basis was used to establish this ruling, but the “God Hates Fags” people are going to have to pay $10.9 millions after protesting the wrong funeral.

It’s nice to see people so motivated and animated about something they feel a conviction about. I just wish they spent their energy on something good, rather than spewing hate. At the risk of being presumptuos, these people are not Christians - more like the Pharisees.

Illegal Immigration

October 31st, 2007

First and foremost, it is important to differentiate between the topic of Legal Immigration and the popular discussion point of Illegal Immigration.

Most Americans have no problem with those people from other countries coming to our borders in the legal fashion and following the law. That is how we became a great country. By doing this, we can ensure that the people that come here are not infected with highly contagious diseases, don’t have criminal back grounds and will add to the common good.

Where we seem to have a bottle neck is how we handle the problem of those potential immigrants that by-pass the legal method of gaining entrance, and crawl, swim or climb over our borders.

It is these people that cause harm to our country. They bring disease like TB into our population…cover our land with trash and waste…and put such a massive drain on our infrastructure that we wind up losing things like our trauma centers.

The laws are in place to deal with this problem, but no one seems to be willing to enforce them. We don’t need to pass new laws to deal with this issue, we just need to enforce the ones that are currently on the books.

Thoughts?
